It's the first Fresh Forkin' Friday of feast season! That means I'll be digging through all the food mags and diving through sites this weekend in preparation for The Big Feast! Even if you're not making a ginormous Thanksgiving dinner, you might be hosting a cocktail party, or bringing a dish to an event, or gathering people for a night out, so I'll focus my energies in the next couple of weeks to bring you the best ideas, recipes, and yam goodness to help. If you've seen the November issue, you know that I've been trolling the metro looking for food that will knock off your party's collective socks. I am so ready to play, let's go.
MyBurger is open in a spot OUTSIDE the habitrail! I hope they don't feel agoraphobic. The skyway joint has thrown down in a West Calhoun/Uptown spot near the Whole Foods. The menu has had a bit of an upgrade and there are chicken/veggie/fish options (plus spices and sauces, man!) available. I'm heading over. Right. Now.
Bangkok Deli is opening a second location called Krung Thep Thai Cuisine next Thursday, November 10 in the former Seafood Palace spot on Eat Street. There is sooooo much love in the universe for Bangkok Deli.
Also on November 10, Sun Street Breads will be open for dinner. It's going to be much more than biscuit love, chef Anette Colon (formerly of Lucia's) is on board to cook up a tractor load of good eats.
The Mezz Bistro Lounge is now open above the Paragon Odyssey 15 movie complex in Burnsville. There's a truckload of cocktails, plus flatbreads, small plates, and a couple of burgers for your pre-Harold and Kumar film fest.
Patina has opened a store in Golden Valley, and I know it's not a restaurant, but I need a new turkey timer and they have super cute ones.
My girl Joy says that La Sirena Gorda in the Midtown Global Market is closed. Bummer.
Get some schooling from mixology pros at the Northstar Bartender's Guild book launch on November 10 at the Mill City Museum. All the stars will be there, Pip, Johnny, and Nick among others to show you how to shake it, chip it, and sip it.
Free the Cheese!!! November is Juicy Lucy Month courtesy of The 5-8 Club. The three locations are running specials all month, including an eating contest on the 28th, a special edition T-Day Lucy, and the hunt for a Golden Lucy, which will score the finder $50 and free Juicy Lucys for a year! Cheer up Charlie, it might be you!
Happy 1st anniversary to Jack's (paper, right?) in South Minny. To celebrate, it's offering 2-for-1 deals on glasses of wine and beer all weekend and a free glass of wine with any order of mussels.
If you're looking to get out of town before the onslaught of family and relatives, sneak up to Grand View Lodge this weekend where the Cooks of Crocus Hill gang is throwing all kinds of twists into holiday traditions. Too short of notice? Well then head up on November 18-19 for the 2nd Annual Grand Brew Fest, which includes sipping, demos, a blind tasting challenge, and a Paul Bunyan burger contest, for cripes and criminy.
