It's Fresh Forkin' Friday! The other night I attended a #MNFoodBloggers meet up at the Corner Table. The Pampuch put out a nice little porky spread, I loved matching some faces with handles, and there was much jocularity and ballyhoo to be sure. Pampuch told us he was launching a CSK (community supported kitchen) box, in which instead of vegetables, subscribers would receive a snappy assortment of pre-prepped meats, stock, and ingredients such as mire poix. It's a rather brilliant thing for the foodist who looks at 12 pounds of kale from a CSA box with stone cold fright: What do I do with this? Because if you give that same foodist some chicken and bacon and a bit of cheese, he's already toasting the bread for his club sandwich. But here's the more brilliant move, Pampuch debuted the box in front of food bloggers. Cookers and talkers. And then he opened up his kitchen and let them play, giving them full reign of his stoves to make something of the ingredients. The giddiness was as palpable as the feeling that The Twitter and blogs would soon be blowing up.
The Green Room in Stillwater is open. Should we call it the First National Green Room? I dunno. It was opened by a couple of industry vets from nearby Marx and offers local food and world cuisine.
Cowboy Jack's in Bloomington is now open. Mechanical bull! Darts! Pool Tables!
Tilia is officially open for full business tomorrow, but sneaky foodists know that it has been serving all week. Doh! And yes, the full menu is finally on the website.
Indochin, from the Que Nha owners, is open on Grand Avenue near Macalster. It looks like the Vietnamese menu is the same as Que Nha, but might eventually evolve with some French influenced items.
Dragonfly Coffee, at the cute corner of 50th and Penn, has closed.
Bullwinkle's at Seven Corners has closed (but Voldy says it won't stay dark long).
Applebee's in Block E is gone. Shocker. Can someone please fix that place? And NOT with a casino!!!
Cars R Coffins will shut this weekend, as I said last week, but it will soon reopen as a Bull Run Coffee Bar. Give a woot woot to Gordy!
Iggers says that Big E will be behind the stoves for the coming Viva Brazil in the former Favor space.
Wondrous and ThanhDo are reaching out for Japan. This Wednesday and Thursday, the restos will donate 100% of sales to the International Red Cross for Japan relief. All you have to do is go in and eat. I say, let's jam the place.
Hey, did you know that Mrs. Kelly's Tea won a coveted second place honor at the World Tea Championship? Her Celebration/Holiday tea scored 85 points in the Flavored Tea category, missing first place by a mere one point! Congrats to Mindy and her whole family.
There's still time to reserve your spot at the Chefs for Change event at People Serving People on Monday. Brenda Langton of Spoonriver will be providing the nosh and all proceeds will go to benefit the new rooftop garden project!
** For more info about the Corner Table CSK, tune into the Weekly Dish radio show tomorrow from 1-2 p.m. on Mytalk 107.1 where The Pampuch will be sitting in as my co-host.
