I'm just going to go ahead and nominate that for the biggest mouthful of a name for the year. But that's ok, we're all going to call them Mattie's on Main anyhoo.
So it seems that the gents who own Wilde Roast Cafe will be taking over the vacant Kikugawa space and launching Mattie's on Main sometime this spring. Construction will start this January on the prime river-side property to turn it into a restaurant and bar that evokes an updated saloon (Mattie St. Clair was a brothel owner in the late 1800's). Jim Smart is on board to design the space which will have a full bar of craft cocktails and local beers, upscale pub foods, adult shakes, and a stage for live performances.
“We want to create a place where it’s easy to enjoy the company of friends, and make new ones”, said co-owner Dean Schlaak. “The year-round patio will have great views of the Mississippi and downtown Minneapolis. Our aim is to serve as a comfortable neighborhood gathering space with quality food and entertainment. We’re excited to be working with Smart Associates to create a space that is warm, welcoming, and with just maybe a hint of naughtiness from the bar’s namesake.”
