Another food truck lands a solid home as last year’s sleeper hit, Hot Indian Foods, opens a counter in the Midtown Global Market. On April 1st, owner Amol Dixit and chef Janene Holig will be taking over the lease of The Left Handed Cook’s space, which was vacated earlier this year when LHC was brought into the fold of the full-service Rabbit Hole. After some light renovation and planning, the counter should be open by May.
The menu will of course play up the food truck’s big hit that was last summer’s Indurrito: an Indian influenced burrito situation wherein tasty things are wrapped in roti. While the truck focused on chicken, lamb, spinach paneer, and vegan channa in the Indurrito, the MGM counter stand will offer more ingredients for the fillings. It will be set up Chipotle-style where you choose your format (wrap or bowl), choose your fillings, then choose your condiments, sauces, chutneys. Indi-frites, their signature Indian spiced fries, will also be making an appearance.
It’s surprising and exciting to note that there are no other Indian-influenced eateries at the MGM, so this may be a huge win on all sides.
