So, the OTHER news that was being bandied between foodists this weekend was the change at D'Amico Kitchen.
After 11 years in the D'Amico hive, helming the Cucina for a good chunk of it, John Occhiato is out as chef at DK. The buzz on the street was that it was a company move . . . that Occhiato wasn't putting up the numbers they wanted. The official word is that John is "leaving to pursue other interests." I haven't been able to reach John to get his side.
Taking over the line will be Justin Fredrick, who has been the chef at MASA. Justin has cooked Italian at Giorgio's in Uptown, and I think he's a pretty swell guy. Taking the big job means getting into all the catering and foodservice that the hotel does, which is much more of an undertaking than simply running one resto. Go Justin, we'll be watching you on live feed!
