Four things to know before you sign up for your community supported agriculture share.
1. Start at minnesotagrown.com, where you can browse dozens of options. Or head to a CSA fair, where you can meet the farmers face-to-face.
2. Don’t be overwhelmed by the price or size. Most farms offer a half-share for smaller families. Another common tactic is to split a share with your neighbors.
3. Choose a realistic pickup or delivery option. As nice as it sounds now, know that you probably won’t be able to make it out to the farm every week to get your stuff.
4. Embrace the weird stuff. You will get kohlrabi and kale and other things you might not normally buy from the store. Use this as your opportunity to discover new dishes. Many farms also offer recipes to go along with the produce.
