City Lunch: Sorrento Cucina
Skyway Accessible: Yes, skyway level.
In/Out: Counter service, some seating.
Deets: Another transplant, Sorrento has moved a few blocks through the skyways into the former Royal Orchid space. They are telling an Italian family restaurant story and it’s just what the Nonna ordered on a chilly, frost-bitten day. The meatball sandwich I ordered came with three racquetball sized balls, clearly hand-formed, and pretty dense. They had a homey meatball flavor and the red sauce was awesomely tart, not wrongly sweet, while the white hoagie bun was really just there to hold them in place (fine by me). I could have gone for the low carb version of just balls and a salad for $6.49 and been more than full. You’ll also find pastas with Bolognese and pesto, lasagna, and a cured meats plate with bread, cheese, and deli sides for a fresh snack. And yes, the cannoli are filled with real ricotta, or RIGOT as they say.
