Buddy's Nut Butter
I’m not waiting for the governor to declare it. I’m calling it. September is Peanut Butter Month. In my subconscious, peanut butter is invariably tied to back-to-school time; how could it not be? This is the month I find myself making peanut butter sandwiches as late-night snacks or upping my morning intake of peanut butter toast—not just for my kids, but also for me.
My new favorite companion in this ride is Buddy’s Nut Butter, which can be found at select Kowalski’s locations and other specialty stores. Made locally from artisanal ingredients, these nut butters give that extra kick of fun and flavor to serve both your inner child and your outward hungry adult. The honey peanut butter has a nice hit of sea salt as an accent, delivering that sweet-salty bite I usually have to achieve with pretzels. The chocolate peanut butter is perfectly balanced with semisweet chocolate, so it’s not too sweet, just perky enough to make a crepe dance.
But the sweet candied nut butter is the one you will crave. Candied walnuts, almonds, and pecans are added to peanut butter for a crunchy spread that is worthy of the best, unabashed open-fridge spoon-eating technique you can muster. Plus, the nudge to store your natural nut butters upside down (so that the oil stays away from the lid) is pure Science 101.
