It began on Facebook when Alexandra Tweten and her friends started a conversation about the negative interactions they’d had with guys on dating sites. Their stories told an all-too-familiar tale in the age of online dating: boy messages girl, girl ignores or rejects boy, and boy lashes out with harassment. This sparked the idea for an online community where women could share their experiences. Enter: Bye Felipe, an Instagram account with 290,000 followers, with real messages women have received from men through their dating profiles. It calls out harassers for derogatory behavior. Tweten, a former Minnesotan now living in L.A., hopes Bye Felipe will continue the dialogue about harassment. “I make fun of these guys because I want to take the power away from them,” she says.
