The reception for media empress Arianna Huffington at Dan Buettner’s Lake of the Isles home felt like an episode of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Hosted by the author of The Blue Zones and Thrive along with Bizzare Foods America’s Andrew Zimmern and Minneapolis mayor Betsy Hodges, the evening kicked off with Hodges’s refreshingly candid opening remarks. “Twenty-five years ago I was a drunk, smoking a pack of cigarettes a day, and weighed over 200 pounds,” she said. “And today I ran nine miles.” For his part, Buettner introduced his latest Blond Buettner Beauty—New York Times best-selling wellness author and Los Angeles starlet—Kathy Freston to the crowd as “the love of his life.”
Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare landed at St. Paul’s Holman Field Airport for its annual “Come Fly With Me” fundraiser. KSTP’s Jason Davis emceed, making this one of his final stops “on the road” to retirement. The dark hanger featured a series of vignettes around a broad transportation theme: historic and modern aircraft, rare automobiles, and antique boats. Meanwhile, Belladiva had guests on their feet and on the dance floor with their high-energy Andrews Sisters sounds.
The plea of many during MLB All-Star week was: Please, will someone “take ME out to the ball game?” With ticket prices in the thousands, the great American pastime turned into an expensive proposition that left many standing outside the ballpark. But at least they were standing on streets filled with celebs. On the field, of course, Idina Menzel—fondly referred to by Danny Zuko as Adele Dazeem—sang the National Anthem, and Nelly and Andy Cohen threw out a pitch or two during the softball game. What an exciting time to be a Minneapolitan.
See you on the scene!
