Todd and Allison catch up with Jason Derulo
The show must go on! Macy’s Glamorama, in its 22nd year, once again brought Minneapolis an evening filled with fashion, food, and a whole lot of selfies. Despite the changes we’ve seen in both fashion and party perks over the years, it still remains the crown jewel of local fashion shows. The evening is always topped off with a blowout party in Macy’s eighth-floor auditorium that extends onto the top floor of the parking ramp, transformed into a pounding New York–style dance club by VP of special productions Michael Gansmoe and his creative team.
Guests arrived on the red carpet embracing this year’s theme: “Fashion Rocks.” As in years past, the models walked the runway showing the latest in Macy’s fashions and the show built to the traditional crowd-pleasing crescendo of underwear-clad male models showing, well, their finest assets. Jason Derulo took to the stage entertaining Glam-goers with songs from his most recent album Talk Dirty. When our own senior editor of style Allison Kaplan asked Derulo where now ex-girlfriend and former American Idol winner Jordin Sparks was, he flashed a big smile and said, “Tonight is our second-year anniversary. Jordin is relaxing up in our room.”
I was more interested in finding out how one gets and maintains Derulo abs. “No carbs. Absolutely no carbs,” Derulo told me. But he also admitted his entire band breaks once a day for an intense 30-minute ab workout. Wonder if going carb-free and pounding out sit-ups for 30 minutes a day would give me abs like that. A guy can dream.
Now for a note to the well-“heeled” society women: This isn’t Prom-orama. Slingbacks does not mean “sling over one’s back.” If the heels don’t fit, don’t commit! Going barefoot at a formal occasion because you bought the wrong size Jimmy Choos doesn’t cut it.
See you on the scene!
