Life is a cabaret, at least that’s how it felt in St. Paul’s Public Kitchen restaurant with the Roaring ‘20s event to support the Children’s Hospital Association. The space had a speakeasy vibe, with an intimate crowd dressed for the evening’s theme. Speaking of theme, Cydney Strommen, account director at Fast Horse Marketing Agency of Minneapolis, resembled a glam flapper gal dressed in a vintage black faux fur bolero she scored at Arc’s Value Village and a red flapper dress. Her dapper dude husband, Bjorn Strommen of Sherman Associates, accompanied her. Public Kitchen’s executive chef, Joan Ida, prepared signature cocktails: The Bees Knees and Giggle Juice. Silent auction items certainly seemed to run with a sports theme—a signed Wild team jersey and four club-level Gopher/Badger hockey tickets—which raised more than $12,000 for the Children’s Hospital Association.
Minnesota was not a flyover zone for a few celebrities during the frigid months of winter. Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir stopped by the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul to lend their commentary covering the U.S. Figure Skating Championships for NBC Sports. When I asked how they coordinate their outfits, Weir quickly replied, “It’s easy, we always request adjoining rooms so we coordinate before our appearances.”
Meanwhile, Flavor Flav was meeting with real estate developer Craig Cohen and Minneapolis commercial real estate agent Andrea Christenson of Cushman & Wakefield. Christenson hosted lunch at Mission restaurant in the IDS tower, and was a bit shocked at the throngs of Public Enemy/Flavor Flav fans who wanted a quick selfie with the triple-threat rapper-actor-comedian. The group had dinner at Borough restaurant, where Flav enjoyed the chicken. Hmmm, it looks like Flavor Flav just may be scouting a few places to perhaps re-launch his shuttered Flavor Flav’s Chicken & Ribs restaurant.
See you on the scene!
