Stop the carols. Weren’t we just at summer polo matches dripping with sweat? To close 2015, we have to chat about some standout social events. Philanthropist, socialite, and all-around party gal Blythe Brenden was given the “Key to the Store” to likely her favorite room in Minneapolis—JB Hudson Jewelers.
The Bling Bash, a benefit for the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital, was filled with Brenden’s A-list friends. As the gentlemen enjoyed the scotch tasting, the success ratio of women convincing their husbands that new diamond earrings were “for a good cause” seemed to increase—have another one, guys!
Avant Garden was sans the garden for 2015. The indoor event took over the majority of the Walker, and was a splendid evening. Todd Pinzuti of Bungalow 6 Design was given carte blanche access to the museum galleries, transforming the rooms to reflect the past five years of the Walker’s annual Avant Garden celebration, which usually attracts close to 1,000 attendees. Proceeds from the event support the Walker’s artistic and education programs. Twin Cities’ power couples Frank Vascellaro and Amelia Santaniello, along with Tom and Angela Wicka, looked like they could be part of a Walker installation titled Minneapolis Perfection 2015. Note to self—never agree to be in a picture with these four again. Gulp, self esteem therapy needed!
The Mpls.St.Paul ASID MN Showcase Home Opening Night Gala was switched to the fall this year, hoping to confuse the weather gods who have cursed this event with bad weather for more years than any of us would like to remember. This year’s hosts, Mark and Susan Lacek, were the perfect family to embrace the downpour challenge. The Lacek’s home renovation vision embraced their love for the water. Something tells me the inclement weather was not what they had in mind. Regardless of the “floods to remember” it was once again a terrific evening.
See you on the scene!
