Cocktails at the Castle at American Swedish Institute
Ivey and Charlie Awards creator Scott Mayer and esthetician John Zeches ventured to our capital city for their official wedding reception celebrating 20 years together and one year of marriage. The festivities took place at the newly renovated Bedlam Theatre space in downtown St. Paul, which included great musical performances by crowd favorites Erin Schwab and Regina Marie Williams. For two people who act as if you have to go through customs to get to St. Paul, it seemed like an unlikely location. But it was a perfect spot to celebrate a great evening for a very patient couple.
Speaking of happy couples, WCCO-TV reporter and MyTalk 107.1 radio host Jason Matheson recently crossed the threshold in more ways than one. Matheson turned 40 just weeks before walking down the aisle with partner Collin Haas (now Collin Matheson) at Minneapolis’s Loews Hotel. “MyTalkers” hoping to crash the soiree were left sipping their $15 Matheson Manhattan’s at Cosmos downstairs while invited guests (who had to show their IDs) were given access wristbands and whisked upstairs for the reception.
Circus Juventas celebrated 20 years under the big top with Neverland. Proud Juventas parent, board member, and Star Tribune reporter Vineeta Sawkar cheered on the high-flying performers. Guests at the opening-night VIP reception praised the great work founder Dan Butler has done in providing a stage to train aspiring gymnasts and possible future Cirque du Soleil performers.
For the second year in a row, the award for most creative event concept goes to the American Swedish Institute for bringing the North Woods to Park Avenue. ASI converted the castle into a campground for Cocktails at the Cabin. More than a thousand plaid-wearing urbanites turned out for logrolling, s’mores ice cream, a loon calling contest, a sauna in an Airstream camper, wood carving, and Ole and Lena jokes.
See you on the scene!
