Goldie the Gopher socializes at the Northrop Opening Gala.
Minnesota, the Land of 10,000 Lakes and nearly as many summer events. How to choose? Let’s start with the 17th annual ASID MN Showcase Home event, which was extra special this year. The featured home was that of our very own Mpls.St.Paul Magazine editorial director Jayne Haugen Olson and her husband, Curt Olson. As guests toured their place in Tyrol Hills, gathered around the swimming pool, and noshed on tasty nibbles from Crave, the bow-tie-clad Jerrid Voss (aka the dashing husband of designer Brooke Voss) took bets on when someone would take an unintentional splash. “We left at 10 and no one was doing the backstroke,” quipped former Mpls.St.Paul style editor Melissa Colgan, who made a surprise appearance. The hometown girl turned New York fashionista just left a position as senior style editor at Martha Stewart Weddings to join Hearst’s House Beautiful and Elle Decor.
Meanwhile, Linden Hills was hosting one of its neighborhood parties. Fifteen years ago, then-4-year-old Madelaine Foster spoke these immortal words to her mother, Laurie Foster: “Cake is so good we should have a cake day.” An annual party was born. About 150 people came out to enjoy a variety of Wuollet Bakery treats. Linden Hills residents Jude and Meagen Mahowald were there with bells on, as always.
In southwest Minneapolis, Keith and Molly Herman do Memorial Day up right. Their annual party had a taco bar with pulled pork, black beans, chips, and salsas from Tastebud’s Catering. And the drinks! A rosé bar, craft beers, a gin and tonic bar, and a special bottle of tequila from Manny Gonzalez of Manny’s Tortas. Plus: a snow cone bar by Bittercube. Seriously delish.
See you on the scene!
