Who: Some runners, some walkers, some teeny-boppers, even some stroller-riders
What: “The happiest 5K on the planet,” The Color Run
When: July 14, 2013
Where: Minnesota State Fairgrounds
Why: To make a big, colorful mess, in the name of fun and fitness.
Sweet Martha’s was quiet and there wasn’t a fried treat in sight—last Sunday at the State Fairgrounds was all about fitness and making a darn mess. Where hundreds had gathered in pristine white T-shirts (and more than a few tutus), few clean outfits remained after jogging along a 5-kilometer route dotted with “color zones,” opportunities for volunteers to fling billowing clouds of blue, orange, pink, and yellow-tinted powder onto the raceway and participants.
The reward at the end of the path? Aside from a killer before-and-after diptych, a tireless MC hosting dance contests, and well-timed color throws, plus treats of coconut water and KIND Healthy Snacks bars for tired runners. And, okay, there were tater tots there, too.
