Who: NFL alumni, friends, and fans
What: NFL Alumni “Caring for Kids” Dinner
Where: The Minneapolis Hilton
Why: To relive life on the gridiron and support
children’s charities, including Camp Heartland
The Minneapolis Hilton was an odd place last Saturday night. In the second floor’s grand ballroom, NFL alumni, their lovely wives, and fans who can afford $275-a-plate dinners were decked out in suits, cocktail dresses, and black ties, sipping wine and perusing auction items (including a signed Joe Mauer jersey and a $3,500 Swarovski crystal-encrusted clutch shaped like a football) while Esera Tuaolo sang hits from the seventies. Up one floor, what seemed like 17,000 cheer and dance teams, aged eight to eighteen, were decked out in spandex, screaming at the top of their lungs for lord knows what reason. But once guests made it through the gaggle of 'tweens, it was a fantastic night. Special thanks to Lee Nystrom for introducing this otherwise clueless reporter to all the NFL greats.
