Who: Local do-gooders, plant enthusiasts, and fans of the Arboretum
What: Gala in the Gardens
When: June 13, 2012
Why: To raise funds for a solar-powered vehicle that will shuttle visitors throughout the Arboretum’s grounds and gardens.
The Scene: More than 300 guests started the night with champagne, cocktails, and appetizers on the Arboretum grounds, followed by dinner under a grand white tent.
Dress Code: Garden party attire was out in full force. I saw lots of floral print dresses on women, and tan sport coats and collard shirts on men.
Spotted: Gorgeous floral arrangements from Bachman’s, Len Busch Roses, Countryside Gardens, Indulge & Bloom, Art & Flowers Design Studio, and Victoria Rose Floral. My favorite combo: pink peonies and calla lilies with candles.
Memorable Moment: The live auction led by emcee Belinda Jensen and auctioneer Glen Fladeboe. The most buzzed-about prize was a dinner prepared by chef Tim McKee at the home of University of Minnesota president Eric Kaler.
