Who: Partners and patrons of the affordable housing nonprofit
What: CommonBond Communties’ 2011 Grande Gala
Where: Saint Paul River Centre
When: April 8, 2011
Why: To help those in need with affordable housing and services
When 900 people raised $550,000 for CommonBond Communities at their annual Grande Gala 2011, the night’s theme “There’s no place like home” couldn’t be more true.
CommonBond is the Upper Midwest’s largest nonprofit provider of affordable homes with services, helping more than 40,000 people for more than 40 years.
Touches of The Wizard of Oz theme carried throughout the event. We spotted everything from red ruby slippers and quotes from the movie, to Dorothy’s bicycle. Patrons of the cause kicked off the eve by sipping cocktails, rubbing elbows with St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, and browsing 200 silent auction items—everything from fine art and jewelry to sports memorabilia—leading up to a sit-down dinner and dancing to R-Factor.
With half a million dollars raised in one night for Minnesotans in need of affordable housing, there’s a lot more hope somewhere over the rainbow.
