Who: Cheryl Tiegs, interior designers, home industry insiders, and friends of Mpls.St.Paul Magazine
What: ASID Showcase Home Opening Night Party
Where:[more...] 2009’s ASID Showcase Home Tour house, a mid-century modern home in Edina
When: Friday, May 15, 2009
Why: To kick off the month-long tour (May 16-June 14) and
celebrate all the sweat and tears that goes into the home design and
renovation of the tour house
Have you ever been sucked into one of those home reno TV shows where
the homeowner goes out for coffee and the paper only to return to a
once shabby house, now totally renovated, designed, and furnished with
all new stuff? Surprise!
That’s kind of what happens every year at the ASID Showcase Home Tour, which Mpls.St.Paul Magazine
has co-produced since 1997. If you’re unfamiliar, the Minnesota Chapter
of the American Society of Interior Designers take a home and renovate
and design every inch. This year the committee picked a mid-century
modern home, a very hot trend
and a bit more scaled down in size from the Wayzata and Summit Avenue
manses of years past . . . well OK, more fitting with 2009’s
recession/depression. You know what I mean?
To celebrate all the hard work and creativity from the months leading up to the tour, there is always a kick-off opening night partaay.
It was an evening garden party with a ’50s theme. Vic Volare and His
Fabulous Volare Lounge Orchestra played his lounge-y music. SPAM apps
were passed. Men wore suits, I liked the ones in tan, and women donned
spring cocktail dresses. Festive!
It was martini time, and I found the vodka bar waaay in the back,
which everyone flocked to by the end of the night when approximately 20
of us, whittled down from 500 partiers, remained. As I sipped away, I
saw lights flashing and a tall, leggy blond posing with party peeps Kathy Ordahl and Darren Ennis. Cheryl Tiegs
was reigning the Cambria photo-shoot booth, and I could not pass up the
opportunity to pose with “America’s original supermodel.” Snap, snap.
Her gold platform Christian Louboutins took talent to walk on the
backyard grass. I could identify, I mean I had steeply-discounted Vince
Camutos with a similar heel height (four inches, baby). She looks
amazing, and she has good energy, the secret to staying youthful?
I was so entertained outside under the tents I didn’t even get to tour the house at 4904 East Sunnyslope Road, Edina (shameless self-promotion!). See you there?
