Who: Local politicians and Swedish-Americans
What: A Royal Dedication
Where: Hilton Minneapolis Hotel
When: Oct. 6, 2012
Why: To celebrate the American Swedish Institute's new Nelson Cultural Center and see the King and Queen of Sweden in person.
Spotted: Their Majesties King Carl XIV Gustaf and Queen Silvia. She looked regal in a royal blue dress topped with a fur coat. Gov. Mark Dayton and Sen. Amy Klobuchar were also in attendance.
Eats: This sit-down dinner didn't disappoint. Guests sampled vegetable ratatouille salad, grilled pheasant, and chocolate hazelnut mousse. (No lutefisk or lefse!)
The Scene: After cocktails, hundreds of guests awaited the royal arrival in the ballroom. Their Majesties sat at a long table in the center of the room with politicians and VIPs. After toasts, dinner, and a brief presentation, the royals made their exit. Then gala-goers cut loose to music from Swedish jazz orchestra Kustbandet.
