Though Santa does make an appearance, Beaverdance! A Marxist Holiday Fur Trade Musical at Bedlam Theatre is kind of an anti-Christmas show. It’s equal parts shameless bawdy puns and Marxist political economy—often set to a burlesque dance (Nov. 21–Dec. 21, Bedlam Lowertown, 651-209-0597, bedlamtheatre.org).
For some uplifting holiday spirit, there’s 4000 Miles at Park Square Theatre, about a grief-stricken 21-year-old who bicycles all the way from Seattle to New York City to visit his 91-year-old grandmother in a quest for help and healing (Dec. 5–21, Park Square Theatre, 651-291-7005, parksquaretheatre.org).
And for some good old-fashioned rock ’n’ roll fun, there’s Buddy—The Buddy Holly Story at History Theatre (Nov. 22–Dec. 21, History Theatre, 651-292-4323, historytheatre.com).
