On a visit to Palm Springs in 2010, Nicole and Jeff peeked their heads into the iconic Parker hotel while a wedding was going on. “We fell in love with it,” says Nicole. “I was like, ‘We’re getting married here!’ We weren’t even engaged yet.”
When the couple did get engaged in 2011, the Parker was an easy choice. It allowed the Twin Cities couple to have a destination wedding in a place that felt significant and familiar—Jeff’s family has owned a home in Palm Springs for years. The hotel’s storied pedigree—it was once owned by Gene Autry, then Merv Griffin, and more recently redesigned by Jonathan Adler—helped set the tone for their wedding day. “Old Hollywood was our central theme,” says Jeff.
That Hollywood glamour infused many aspects of the 101-degree wedding day. Guests sipped on signature lemonade cocktails before the outdoor ceremony began. The couple wed under olive and palm trees, with crystal chandeliers dangling overhead. And the clothes-loving bride made a costume change mid-celebration, switching from a long Vera Wang gown with Christian Louboutins and flowing hair to a short Peter Langner dress (custom-designed for her by Langner when he visited l’atelier couture) with Sergio Rossi cage heels and her hair swept to the side.
The outdoor dinner was a stunning sight, framed by tall hedges and the retro architecture of the Parker. “We didn’t need to do a whole lot because you’re outside and the chandeliers were amazing,” says Nicole. “We did big flowers. Big silver vases, a lot of mercury.”
The table names continued the theme, paying tribute to the likes of Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, and Gene Autry. However, there were also a few touches that were decidedly new Hollywood—including the music. “As we walked out [of the ceremony], the string quartet played Usher’s ‘OMG I’m so in love, I finally found you,’” says Jeff, who shares a love of hip-hop with his bride. Old and new melded for an unforgettable Friday night, which ended with a very fitting Palm Springs encore—a sunny Saturday by the pool.
