In case you haven’t heard, the North Loop is really ticking—particularly since the 350-pound clock went up at 3rd and Washington announcing the arrival of Shinola, an American revival brand hailed for bringing manufacturing back to Detroit. Shinola produced 50,000 watches last year and hopes to assemble 150,000 this year as it continues to expand. Minneapolis is just the third city (after Detroit and New York) to get a Shinola store, featuring the full assortment of watches, leather goods, and bicycles. Shinola’s sister brand Filson, a century-old maker of canvas bags and outerwear, shares the North Loop space. Look for nods to Minnesota throughout the store, including paddles by Winona-based Sanborn Canoe Company and signs by local artist Bear Fox Chalk.
