Cheers to the Lone West End Boutique
Amy Briesemeister didn’t set out to be a pioneer — the former model just wanted to outfit hip moms in sexy sundresses, trendy jeans, and studded baseball caps at her boutique, Pink Champagne.
But while a retailer can pick her location, she can’t control her neighbors. So Briesemeister finds herself in the unenviable position of trying to draw traffic to a largely unpopulated corridor off the main drag at The Shops at West End in St. Louis Park. With empty stores on all sides, Pink Champagne’s closest neighbor is Omaha Steaks.
Nonetheless, Briesemeister—the only single-store local retailer at West End (other locals Hot Mama and Creative Kidstuff are more like mini chains)—is doing her best to make it work. This is actually the third location for Pink Champagne, which started out six years ago in south Minneapolis and moved to Orono for a stint before settling at West End, which Briesemeister believed would offer more of a regional draw.
“The only thing West End needs is more stores,” she says. “I truly believe this is going to become a great destination.”
Pink Champagne is a fitting complement to the other contemporary fashion stores at West End. The look is rocker casual: cargos, denim, Swarovski crystal–embellished tees, as well as sundresses destined for Saturday afternoons on the deck at Maynard’s. Key brands include Twisted Heart, 4 Love & Liberty, and Miss Me. At Pink Champagne, a little bling never goes out of style, but Briesemeister is tweaking her look to match her location: The denim cutoffs are a nod to the Toby Keith’s crowd—the store’s main source of walk-by traffic. Briesemeister also brought in some lower-priced shirts and dresses for the teens that shop on the corner at fast-fashion chain Love Culture. Pink Champagne offers mini-me fashions for little girls and casual apparel for men, plus beauty products and accessories.
“I’m just trying to keep it fresh,” Briesemeister says.
So next time you’re in the area, go around the corner from Hot Mama and poke your head into Pink Champagne. The West End needs more boutiques like it. 1645 Park Place Blvd., St. Louis Park, 952-476-4100
