On Our Radar: @MrsPHicks

We love these rugged shoes for women

The shoes of men’s neckwear designer Katherine McMillan are a bit like the ties she creates: well crafted, comfortable, and timelessly American. The co-owner of Minneapolis-based Pierrepont Hicks is applying the same classic menswear aesthetic that has earned her international raves to women’s shoes with a new brand called @mrsphicks—a nod to her Twitter handle.

“I have always gravitated toward men’s styles of footwear, so the jump from ties to shoes was pretty fluid,” she says.

McMillan teamed up with Rancourt & Co., a family-run company that has been hand-sewing moccasins in Maine for 40 years. She put a subtle feminine spin on the traditional chukka, making it narrower and adding a green lining. A couple of styles are now available online, and there are more to come. Each pair is made to order, with prices starting at $325.
