A Hue For You

Color us ready for spring!

PUT AWAY THE KHAKIS. Give your dark denim a rest. Color has never been more ubiquitous. The trick is figuring out how to make it work within your wardrobe. Perhaps it’s one vivid jolt, or maybe you’re the type that can layer color on color. Classic, sporty, or total girly-girl—here are fresh ways to go bright.

It’s impossible to stay neutral on the subject of fashion this spring. Stores are blooming with color, and what could be more uplifting than trading the grays for a shot of orange, hot pink, electric blue, or—why not?—all three?

The Pantone Color Institute forecasted this bright, bold turn by declaring Tangerine Tango the color of 2012. The spirited red-orange hue is said to trigger energy and confidence. We’ll take it in a bag. And a shoe.

There is a spectrum between pale and neon, and that’s where you’ll find your palette. Delicate pieces look especially fresh in color. Yes, you can be pretty in green.

A handbag is a great place to work in that essential pop of orange. Carry it with almost anything in your wardrobe (except black!). >>

Our on-the-go lifestyle becomes trendy as active apparel enjoys a season in the spotlight. You’ll see workout clothes that look like streetwear and street clothes— even dresses—with sporty touches. What makes this look is lots of crazy color.

Beauty Tip: When there’s no time to sweat it out, highlight your best features with an illuminator, such as Aveda’s Enbrightenment Brightening Correcting Serum ($50). >>

You live in neutrals. Wild is mixing black and white. This spring, think of bright as the new basic. A pair of red jeans will work with all of your foundation pieces and prove that you know how to have fun.

Don’t try to match your jewelry precisely. Amber is a warm complement to red. >>

Feeling daring? Add a second pop of color, such as a neon belt—a fresh accent to primary colors. >>
