Retro Hair: Not Your Grandmother's Roller Set

Inspired by singing sensation Adele's bouffant and the polished coifs from Mad Men, we wondered how the classic roller set would translate today

    Velcro rollers in a variety of sizes ($3.69), from Sally Beauty Supply.

    Bumble and Bumble Bb. Holding Spray ($20), from Sephora and Target.

    Start with clean hair that's been flash dried with a blow dryer.

    Each section is sprayed with Bumble and Bumble Bb. Holding Spray ($20).

    After the section is sprayed, it's curled and pinned in place.

    The top section is rolled toward the face.

    The side section is rolled in one direction all around the head, left to right.

    Once all the hair is set and cools, it's time to take out the pins and lightly brush to style.

    The result: old school, Hollywood waves!

    Clean hair is flash dried if straight and blown out if curly.

    Each section is sprayed with Bumble and Bumble Bb. Holding Spray ($20). Each section width matches the width of the Velcro rollers. Most of the curlers shown here are about two-inches.

    Hair sets under the blow dryer for 20 minutes.

    Once hair cools, about 15 minutes, it's time to take out the rollers.
