From Thaw to Meltdown: 1950s-1980s

February 25, 2012 10:00 AM - August 12, 2012 9:00 PM

at The Museum of Russian Art
After World War II and the death of Stalin in 1953, the ideological restrictions imposed on Soviet artists were gradually relaxed, and, as Soviet society transformed, so did the work of its artists. This show features 55 remarkable works by some of Russia’s most famous 20th-century artists, much of it inspired by the country’s rapid industrialization after WWII. Images of hydroelectric power plants, factories and railroads are juxtaposed with images of individual laborers, expanding the range and skill of artists and their contribution to socialist enterprise.
