The Chalice: Lizzo, Claire de Lune, and Sophia Eris
The all-female hip-hop group The Chalice is speedily becoming one of the most popular live acts in Minnesota. Two years ago, Claire de Lune, Sophia Eris, and Lizzo met at a party, wrote a song for fun, and posted it on SoundCloud. To their surprise, 89.3 The Current started playing “Push It”—a sultry hybrid of R&B and hip-hop—and the overwhelmingly positive reception motivated the three women to write more songs and release an EP.
At the State Fair this year, The Chalice will be kicking off the annual MN Music On A Stick Grandstand show on Aug. 30, with The Suburbs, Trampled by Turtles, Mason Jennings, and P.O.S. They are the only women on the bill. “We’re loud, boisterous, party-rap girls,” says Claire de Lune. “We’re all about having a good time.” If you can’t catch The Chalice at the fair, see them instead at the Walker Art Center’s Summer Music & Movies series on Aug. 12.
Stillwater Music Festival Innovative, genre-defying jazz ensemble Brooklyn Rider hosts its eighth annual visit to Stillwater. Its new album is A Walking Fire. Aug. 22, 26 & 27. Various locations, Stillwater, 651-587-3518, stillwatermusicfestival.com
