For many Twin Cities art lovers, Thanksgiving starts with the Minneapolis College of Art and Design art sale. Every year, the weekend before Turkey Day, MCAD opens its doors to the public for a chance to snap up artwork of all kinds by students and alumni who are among the best young artists in the country. Student work tops out at $1,000, and the ceiling for alumni work is $1,500.

Pictured above is MCAD alumnus Ryan Hughes with his painting Wishbone. “My work exists at the intersection of graphic design and painting,” says Hughes. “I use technology, but I’m always referencing traditional forms.” Hughes will be selling Wishbone for $950, along with 15 other paintings and 30 or so “quieter” drawings. Nov. 21–23. Minneapolis College of Art and Design, 2501 Stevens Ave., Mpls., 612-874-3700, mcad.edu
