Day Eight: Big Rivers Regional Trail

A scenic bike path that’s close enough to get home before dark.

Big Rivers Regional Trail
We found the best-kept biking secret in the metro: Big Rivers Regional Trail. The little-used path serves up limestone cliff faces plus close-up views of the confluence of the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers. Bonus: It also makes for an easy and safe trek. The track is flat, just 5.1 miles long, and is perched along bluffs overlooking the river, far from the area’s considerable traffic. Look for the trailhead in Mendota Heights for speedy access to the prettiest part (and whatever you do, don’t park at the Pool & Yacht Club). 1495 Sibley Memorial Hwy., Mendota Heights, 952-891-7000, dakotacounty.us
