The Dentons’ bedroom is inspired by their log cabin home in Livingston, Montana, and outfitted with Pendleton blankets and a buffalo painting by a local artist there.

“The whole kitchen started by the fact that I always wanted a SubZero fridge, but it wouldn’t fit with the cabinets so we ripped the whole room down to the studs.” James found Ohana Construction via Craigslist and hired the company to do a full remodel. (Note: The kitchen will appear in the spring Parade of Homes Remodelers Showcase.)

There’s been a collective smile (and maybe a little drooling) across the state as the hot plumber from Desperate Housewives has been popping up in local theater and radio. Turns out the familiar face of Mike Delfino—aka James Denton in real life—has decided to make Minnesota his new home. His wife, Erin, grew up in Shakopee, and when her sister was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, they ditched their post-Housewives plan to move to Montana and took an immediate detour here. They’ve moved into a neighborhood in Chanhassen where they can walk their two kids, Sheppard and Malin, to elementary school, enjoy open space without fences, and live quietly. It’s a far cry from the chaos of L.A., where James used to receive random gifts on his doorstep and boxes of shoes signed by Kenneth Cole. “It’s crazy what you get for being on a silly show, then it’s over and they lose your number,” he laughs. He’s happy that this turn of events has brought him back to his roots in theater. He just wrapped Good People at Park Square Theatre in St. Paul and will do more local directing at Torch Theater in St. Louis Park. To keep busy, he also does frequent bits on myTalk 107 and spends time with his wife, a personal trainer and owner of Bring It! Studios and CrossFit Chanhassen. And though he still travels often to L.A. for movies, pilots, and gigs with his charity cover band, Minnesota now feels like home. “In the end, you go where the family is.”
