Gracious Home

Owner Kristi Patterson's mission is to nudge Minnesotan's beyond beige

Gracious Home is tough to categorize, with traditional leather sofas beside funky zebra-print chairs. There are impulse items, from soaps and candles to pillows and lamps, as well as custom furnishings and fabrics. But large or small, comtemporary or classic, everything at this new downtown Wayzata home furnishings store and design studio fits owner Kristi Patterson's underlying mission: to nudge Minnesotans beyond beige.

Energizing dull rooms started out as a hobby, evolved into a design business, and became a home-staging service for Patterson. "My philosophy was not to make it vanilla or take the personality out. I wanted to create beautiful rooms that people would remember," says Patterson, who long dreamed of opening her own store. "I'd have clients tell me that if it looked like that when they were living there, they would have stayed."

Gracious Home targets the established home-owner (this is Wayzata, after all) who is itching to make a new statement, whtether that's with a work of art or new curtains. Patterson is not a certified interior designer, but she's clearly got the intuition and experience to elevate a room, and her store is designed to inspire. 775 E.
