“We invite Showcase Home guests to come in, sit down, relax, and enjoy the view of the cathedral and the park.”
~ Heidi Dockter, Allied ASID
Homeowners Andy and Whitney Blessing love their front porch because it connects them to the courtyard, the neighborhood, and the outdoors.
Interior designers Heidi Dockter, Christine Sutphen, Karlene Hunter Baum, and Lauradeen Potretzke wanted to create a space that welcomes guests, invites them to linger over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, and reflects the grandeur of a lovely old mansion. Challenged by unsightly metal support posts behind the original wooden columns, the designers camouflaged the posts with flowing panels of fabric.
Using comfortable furnishings appropriate to the period of the home, they created a visual focal point with an imposing display cabinet and designed an array of seating options. To add architectural interest, the designers hung large-scale lanterns to illuminate the porch and create a gracious welcome.
