"We believe that even the hardest working spaces in a home should be inspirational"

~ Krista Schwartz Allied ASID

Intrigued by the idea of a young family living in a historic Victorian house, interior designers Krista Schwartz, Daisy Firebaugh, and Anita Johnson knew they wanted to honor the home’s distinctive Queen Anne–style architecture while breathing new life and energy into the space. To accomplish this, the trio collaborated with Whitney and Andy Blessing to understand the many ways in which the family intended to utilize the breakfast room and back entry. Challenged by the limited square footage, the designers created a dinette area for eating, talking, and playing, and a mudroom area for shoes, boots, coats, and more. They chose a fresh, youthful color palette and selected furnishings and finishes with a balance of contrasts and textures. Designed to grow with the family, the space is both fun and functional, yet stylish and sophisticated.

What We Love

The sculpted, high-back upholstered bench—and the way that the designers juxtaposed the luxurious velvet fabric against the exposed brick wall.
