Founded in 1917, the Junior League of Saint Paul (JLSP) has been improving the community for 95 years. Made up of dedicated women volunteering their time and talents to fill unmet community needs, JLSP is unique in its ability to consistently identify and address pressing community challenges.
The JLSP’s current initiative, Healthy Bodies, Healthy Brains, seeks to impact children’s readiness to learn as it relates to food insecurity and nutrition. Through the Backpack Buddies Program, first and second graders at St. Paul’s John A. Johnson Elementary School receive nutritious, easy-to-prepare food and snacks to bridge the Friday-to-Monday meal gap when food may not be available at home. Additionally, they have partnered with Hunger-Free Minnesota to support its goal to close the missing meals gap for Minnesotans, particularly children.
