Meet the Showcase Home Builders
Andrew Nelson, Andy Blessing
Andy and Whitney Blessing are owners of the 2013 ASID MN Showcase Home. Andy and colleague Andrew Nelson are co-founders of A-Squared Design/Build/Remodel, builders for the Showcase Home.We caught up with Andy and Andrew during a quick coffee break at Nina’s, a favorite Cathedral Hill neighborhood gathering place.
Mpls.St.Paul: What makes A-Squared different from other design/build/remodel companies?
Andy: We are master carpenters with an appreciation for design and an artisanal approach to building. We specialize in high-end remodeling and restoration. By providing hands-on involvement at each step of every project, we deliver exceptional quality and value.
Andrew: More than anything, a genuine love of structure and design is what sets us apart from other firms. Andy and I both studied architecture at the University of Minnesota, and we both have a passion for getting our hands dirty. We love what we do, and we love seeing great design actuated, resulting in spaces that are more than just the sum of their parts.
Mpls.St.Paul: Once the ASID MN Showcase Home project is complete, what’s your next dream project?
Andy: Repurposing a historic urban, mixed-use building.
Andrew: As much as I love the Twin Cities, my dream project would be out in the country, along the bluffs or beside a river. The project would integrate aspects of fluidity and light, elements that make stepping outside the city once in a while so essential to happiness.
