Eyes Have It
False lashes, one of beauty’s greatest indulgences, are back. Carroll Britton of Carroll Britton Cosmetics Studio has her own technique. She mingles real lashes with false ones to avoid the tarantula look. “Lashes look more dramatic than using too much shadow,” she says. Also hot for the season: red lips.  Britton teaches various techniques for making a perfect red lip—whether it’s applying lip pencil over lipstick or combining with gloss for a customized shade. A makeup application can really elevate your look. “It’s not an unnecessary luxury, it’s a useful accessory.”
Time needed: 30 to 60 minutes.
Price: $50 to $150.

Do It Right
“Forties glamour is really in right now,” says Kathy Larrabee, creative and technical director of the hair team at Spalon Montage. “It’s a wavy, constructed do—a finger wave, but it’s set, like Jessica Rabbit, my glamour-girl hero.” Most people wear it down, or pin up just the back, to give it a boblike shape—think Heidi Klum at this year’s Emmys. Larrabee suggests embellishing with ornate combs or barrettes (bring those with you).
Time needed: At least 60 minutes.
Price: $50 to $120.

Smooth Sailing
If you really want to glow this holiday season, schedule an appointment for Botox or a derma filler. Botox and fillers take seven to ten days to take effect, and “there might be risk of bruising or swelling, so you’ll be much happier if you plan ahead,” says Susan Olson, RN, director at Zel Skin & Laser Specialists. For a quick, healthy, glowing skin, consider a peel, which uses mild alpha-hydroxy acids from citrus fruit to exfoliate, moisturize, and stimulate skin. The best part is that it helps people of all ages and all skin types.
Time needed: About 45 minutes.
Price: $105.
