Where and What to Eat

Fried chicken is definitely having a moment right now. Here are a few notable crispy birds that let you kick back and enjoy the lazy days of summer eating.
Nashville Hot Chicken at Bayport BBQ
Bayport’s little blues joint decided to dial it up this summer by adding this regional specialty to the menu. In the Nashville tradition, the bird is marinated for 24 hours in buttermilk and spices. It’s then floured with a secret spice mix and fried. You serve the crispy pieces on white bread with pickles. It’s a flavor bomb, full of heat and a backside of cinnamon and spice, with extra kick and old-school verve. When they run out, it’s gone for the day. But you can call a day ahead and order a whole mess to bring home and kick it picnic-style.
