Aster Café

Nibbles at this St. Anthony Main charmer are classic bohemian and easy on the pocketbook.

Recently reopened by the team from Excelsior’s 318, Aster manages to get a lot of mileage from its charms. Its picturesque location in St. Anthony Main is certainly one of them. The comfortable cafe has a simple courtyard that might just be the perfect place to spend one of those fall afternoons when the sun hangs brightly, still warming, but the air is crunchy like a good apple. This is the place to squander a few hours dreaming of Paris with a bottle of the fine Rhone Rouge ($39). And when the glasses of house red or white are only $4.75, how can you go wrong? Nibbles are classic bohemian and easy on the pocketbook, including a tasty cheese plate of Northern Lights blue with walnuts and pears for $4.25 or a crispy, salty flatbread pizzetta of sopressata, mozzarella, and tapenade for about four bucks more. It’s almost enough to make you forget the woes of the Euro.
