It seems like the city has been waiting for a splash, and Union hasn’t disappointed. The old Shinders on Hennepin, the one people murmured about for years, has been transformed into a three-part spectacular spectacular. Starting from the top, there’s a retractable rooftop dining room that will be a solarium for the sun seekers all winter. The main level is dark and clubby with booth seating and touches of copper. Downstairs, accessible by the alleyway behind the restaurant, is the Marquee Lounge where craft mixology is being given the club treatment. Make no mistake, with Chef Jim Christiansen behind the menu, the food is just as serious and just as fun.
