My Burger Uptown

It takes a lot of guts to go from the safe haven of the skyways and jump into the big world. When you’re in the Habitrail, you have a captured audience most of the year and can count on roughly 12,000 hungry people walking by your door between the hours of 11 am and 2 pm. It’s a lot scarier on the outside with more space, more competition, and weather.

My Burger, a little slip of a staple in the 6 Quebec skyway, took the leap and opened a second location on the edge of Uptown near the Whole Foods complex. The new digs are stylish, modernly accented with orange and rich wood, and the back eating area has a colorfully graphic wall that screams kid-friendly without alienating adults.

But let’s get to the burgers, shall we? You can order simply or complexly here, as there are many optional add-ons such as Cajun spices, teriyaki sauce, and a fried egg. You can go “kinda fancy” with its signature burgers, such as Cajun bacon cheese, or choose something “just as good”—maybe a chicken, veggie, or fish burger. This is fast-casual—you order at the counter, and they’ll bring your food on a metal tray.

Burgers are a little meatier than the thin patties at Smashburger, but they could use a little more crust. All in all, I’d say these are worthy burgers, maybe not cultish right now, but the bun is great, the fixings are fresh and fun, and it’s all nicely priced for a winning move. 3100 Excelsior Blvd., Mpls., 952-500-9118, myburgerusa.com
