HOME Idea Book

  • This home lacked charm and warmth - two characteristics that were important to a young family moving here from Alabama. Here in the Great Room, we removed an awkward angular buffet, several 'art niches' & nearly a dozen recessed cans. We then created the Paneled Wall with Sconces to anchor the Dining Area, added Beams to the Vaulted Center Ridge & three Cross Beams for architectural presence & hung a pair of Seedy Glass Lanterns, which give off a wonderful play of light on the walls at night.
  • In the Powder Room, we removed the dated vanity and wall-hung cabinet. To further the lodge concept we sourced a 3” thick Live-edge Walnut Slab as the countertop and paired it with an Antique Trumeau Mirror and Lantern for grace and style.
  • This Hearth Room, adjacent to the Kitchen and Breakfast Area really is the Heart of this Home. Our focus in these areas was to refinish and deepen the stain on the floors, replace the dated fireplace surround and hearth with Soapstone Slabs and then we enameled all of the stained maple cabinetry and millwork a warm-khaki color; which was chosen for the added psychological warmth over white or cream.
  • Here in the Kitchen Cabinetry our main focus was a new Custom Island. The previous inhabitant had a shallow raised snack bar. For this family, a one-level island was more appropriate, especially one large enough to provide prep-area, enough space for baking and children’s crafts and to serve as a buffet table when they entertain. We opted for a historic countertop of Arabascato Marble and then incorporated a marble chamfered subway tile for the backsplash.
  • While many of the Details in this Master Bedroom feel feminine, the natural linen fabrics, aged nightstands and neutral color scheme keep it from being too sweet. This quiet palette also allows the Antique French Chandelier to hold center stage.
