When I was pregnant with daughter Maddie, my husband and I planned to have her ears pierced soon after she was born. We figured it would be easier while she was still fairly stationary, and she’d never remember any pain associated with it.
The Challenge: After Maddie was born, I had second thoughts about altering her delicate little lobes. (What if they got infected? What if she grew up and told us she’d never wanted them pierced in the first place and resented us forever?) So we waited. And waited. And now she’s a running, jumping, somersaulting two-and-a-half-year-old who talks about “wearing earrings like Mama” on a regular basis. Apparently, those pinch-y plastic clip-ons just aren’t cutting it anymore.
The Solution: Poppy Drops. I happened upon these teensy temporary tattoo earrings at the mylittleone children’s boutique in Excelsior. They’re made from food-grade vegetable dyes and stay on for about a week, but come off with rubbing alcohol or baby oil if you want to change them up earlier. Plus, there’s zero chance of them snagging on something when she’s in toddler tornado mode.
And oh, the designs. They are completely sugarandspiceandeverythingnice—from creamsicles and cookies to owls and sea horses. We might just have to try them all.
Poppy Drops, $8 for 12 pairs. Available locally at mylittleone children’s boutique, 370 Water St., Excelsior, 952-474-4914.
