White Bear Lake author David LaRochelle’s latest kiddo book tells the story of a cow, a car, and their delightfully mischievous joyride, in (mostly) one word: moo. Last Saturday, LaRochelle and illustrator Mike Wohnoutka received top honors for the book in the Minnesota Book Awards’ Children’s Literature category.
He’s no newbie in the literary limelight. Another LaRochelle board book, How Martha Saved Her Parents From Green Beans, was also among this year’s top four finalists. And check out Reese Witherspoon reading LaRochelle’s The Best Pet of All at the White House.
In Moo!, various “moo” iterations make up most of the bovine protagonist’s monologue and dialogue, which means whoever reads this book aloud sounds like a cow to everyone within earshot, and that even kids who can’t read can read it to themselves and each other.
Taking this into consideration, JuiceBox highly recommends the whole family read it together in public. Moo like no one is listening!
