When people discover that I am engaged, the first question they ask is “Oooh! What’s the date?” After the when and where are discussed, the next inquiry is “Oooh! Where are you going on your honeymoon?” It is this second series of questions that always leaves me grasping for words. I wish I could spit something out like, “Well, I’m glad you asked because Kurt and I just booked a week-long stay on our own private island off the coast of Madagascar.” Or, “We decided to lay low and just go to Paris for a few days.” While both of these trips sound like an absolute dream come true, the truth is we don’t have any ‘moon plans. Though we are currently sans itinerary, this was not always the case.
Kurt and I have both been fortunate to travel to far and exotic places, though never together. He’s been down under in Australia, while I’ve had the opportunity to walk the Great Wall of China. After discussing our various travels, we realized there are many places we both have not visited and set about planning our dream getaway. Following in the footsteps of several of our engaged and recently wedded friends, we wanted to register for our honeymoon on one of the various websites that currently offer this service, such as honeyfund.com. With this newfound information we began designing an elaborate trip that took up from skiing in the Swiss Alps to wine tasting in Southern Italy, via train. How romantic!
