Recipe for a Welcome Bag that Works

After working with our wedding planner, Sally Berry, on the save-the-dates, I couldn’t wait to look at formal invitations. Most of the invites I’ve received over the past several years have been fancy, but with a modern twist, which I love. Long gone are the days of thick ivory paper stock and gold foiled letters as a bride’s only option. Don’t get me wrong—these types of invitations are beautiful, but I knew I wanted to add a little personal flair to mine.
As I walked into Paperista in Edina, I was blown away by the selections of stationery. Personalized notecards are my guilty pleasure. When Kurt and I became engaged one of the first things I did was search my stationery website to see how my new married name would look on my favorite design. This may sound silly to most, but I consider myself very lucky to marry a “Slade” and not a less appealing sounding name. “Ashley Woodhouse Slade” looks great in Roman Block!
Anyway, when I arrived at Paperista, I knew this was going to be one of my favorite planning steps, along with dress shopping. Sitting down with my mom, Sally, and Antoinette (the owner), I didn’t know where to begin. Talking a mile a minute, and making zero sense, my mom—in typical Angie Woodhouse fashion—told me to stay on topic and narrow down my choices. But how could I? I loved them all! It was at this moment of indecisiveness and confusion that Antoinette announced she had something in the back I might like. Describing it as “Kate Spade meets Chanel,” I just about fell backwards off the pouffe I was perched on (my mom and Sally got the chairs). When she presented it to me, all I could do was nod my head and try not to drool. There were no words to describe how much I wanted this invitation! When my mom and Sally had the same starry-eyed look to them—and when my mom was speechless, which NEVER happens—I knew we had found the one.
One more thing to check off the list—October 19 is coming in hot!
