Why: To hear advice from now-successful food entrepreneurs and fill up on their tasty creations.
The Scene: A youthful crowd of hospitality industry insiders and up-and-coming foodies with big ideas chatted and chewed onstage before making room for our food editors and their panel of success stories.
The Menu: Scott Davis and Paul Warni tended bar, handing out 45th Parallel Vodka lemonades and sips of Border Straight Bourbon, while Steven Brown had everyone gobbling up Tilia’s lamb meatballs and spicy chicken. But Michelle Gayer’s Salty Tart treats were the prettiest morsels: white semifreddo piled high with blueberries, crumbled graham cracker crusts and apricot toffee sauce. Not a clean spoon in sight.
Shoutouts . . . to the boys from Travail, who lined the front row, the duos behind Hola Arepa and Left Handed Cook, one of the forces behind Dinner on the Farm (fresh off their first Cinefeast this month) and fancy food queen Laurie McCann Crowell, who all made appearances, plus sponsors Pure Leaf and Diet Pepsi for their help. Not to mention, Dangerous Man Brewery and The Modern Café for hosting unofficial after parties.
Best Advice? “Don’t overthink it,” “Find your own voice,” and “Rock it out!” were our takeaways.
