Who: Hot people
What: French wine tasting and networking on one, hot Bastille Day
Where: Joe’s Garage
When: July 14, 2010
Why: To mingle and raise funds for the Jeremiah Program
Bastille Day, France’s national independence day, was a sweltering July evening—seriously, about 93 degrees with an average humidity of 66—but that didn’t stop more than 100 young pros from sweating it out at Joe’s Garage rooftop for a French wine tasting in honor of the Jeremiah Program.
The event raison for existence was for Propel, Jeremiah Program’s young professional group who network and volunteer for the organization that helps women get on their feet.
Did I mention it was broiling? Regardless, the mood was positive, and it was nice to see youngins talking about good things happening in their lives. For example, Jim Delaney, one of the founding fathers of the LEAD Project, told me about his brand new company, Engine, which will provide affordable consulting to nonprofits.
It was time to hydrate, so Chris, of Chris Osgood Wine Selections, poured a refreshing Saumur Cabernet de Rose that matched my flushed cheeks parfaitement.
The fête closed with words about the Jeremiah Program from Propel steering committee co-chair Dominic Ciresi and participant Amy Gauthier who shared her appreciation and the success she’s had with the program. “Jeremiah has changed my whole life . . . my daughter’s life,” she said. “2008 was a really transitional year for me,” she said. Jeremiah gave her the tools she needed to deal with problems, and today she has a job and meets with a life coach once a week. “You guys are all fantastic, and I love you.” By now I was melting down, despite the amor in the air, so I stormed Café Lurcat to cool off. There I spotted Steve and Sharon Edelman, who were probably celebrating an Emmy and giving CJ a video sound byte or two.
Save the Date: Bullfrog Bash is October 16, 2010. The night combines the olds at the bash with the youngins at the Late Night Leap.
P.S. Pardon moi for my poor French . . . a travesty I agree.
